VERY INTERESTING!!!

The book is a bit wordy, as film books tend to be. It is probably written at a masters level but very accessible to undergraduates who are interested. The author successfully took on the gihugic task of explaining the ins and outs of the indigenous film industry in Latin America to readers who would know nothing of the culture and values of the various people groups nor the challenges they face. I especially like how thoroughly versed in the subject Freya Schiwy appears to be, to the point of adding little anecdotal tidbits of personal experience along the way to help develop understanding. Both non-fictional and fictional films are covered. The book is more about the indigenous film industry as a whole than it is an in depth study of individual works although about 6 short films are dissected in depth to help understand characteristics.
I LOVED THE BOOK, but I'm also a film student with a particular interest in Latin America.
