All fluff and no stuffing

Three words of advice: save your money. Whereas "The Closers" was all steak, "The Closers 2" is as thin as one scrawny piece of bacon. There really is no subtsance to this book. It puports to yield more "secrets" to powerful selling, but it's full of light and largely useless bromides. As I was reading it I felt sure I would come to the "good stuff" soon, but never did. It was like one continuous preface, telling you what goodies there were coming soon, but never getting to them. It is shameful that the cover carries a "WARNING -- not for the beginner or novice, but for sales professionals ONLY." This is puffery of the worse kind, a sleazy sales "trick" that does not belong in any self-respecting salespersons's reportoire. I'm afraid the rest of the book goes downhill from there.

Go ahead and get it

Good supplemental questions for the PE if you need to study a specific topic. Some of the questions go into waaayyy more depth than necessary for the PE. These questions follow the Reference Manual by Camara. I wouldn't say this a must have, but it does provide some benefit when trying to improve weak areas. I didn't work all the problems in this book but focused on questions from various practice test. I did pass the PE my first time.

Even though that is unfair, i will keep the original 2-star rating.

Anyways, i even posted inconsistent material. (The reference manual vs the practice problems contradict each other)

it is better than have ZERO to study for, but it is infuriating finding so many errors. It takes just a SINGLE other person to peruse through the text to find all those silly mistakes

This is an excellent review book for electrical engineering, it only has a few sections on power and the NEC.
The problems are challenging and will make you think, but the title is somewhat mid leading.

This is a school textbook so I doubt anyone is buying this for a good read. But it's got a lot of great pictures, graphs and side notes that make it enjoyable. I like it.

Let me first start by saying that this article does not intend to discourage you from sight reading. In fact, we teach the basics of sight reading even before exploring the techniques of playing by ear. For those of you who don't know what sight reading is, it is the ability to read songs from sheet music. Although this is a wonderful skill to have, if one does not know the theory behind what they are playing, it will create several disadvantages:

Easy way to play by ear!

A previous reviewer had the primary complaint that this book did not come with the CD. It's true that this doesn't come with a CD, but purchasing the book through hear and play dot com will provide you with software to help you better understand the material. I have found this book to be very helpful in helping me understand what musicians on the radio are playing, and with a little time I can now sit at the piano and play the melody and parts of the bass. Most songs follow a simple format so once you understand basic chord progressions, you can start playing songs on the radio without sheet music. Understanding the scales helps you create your own melodies with the songs you play along with. (This book teaches scales quite well). This self-guided course takes you from the fundamentals of music theory to the complex 11th and 13th chords. It ends with teaching you how to create chords from a melody. Each chapter builds upon the previous, and there are many exercises included to help you understand the material.
Playing piano or any instrument by ear does not come overnight, and you have to take the time to study and practice it. Following the lessons in this book and applying it to your instrument will definitely move you forward in your musical goals.

Worth Reading but not a Complete Guide

The title of the book is Learn PHP 7. My expectation was that it would cover all the new PHP 7 features in detail. That was not the case. The book walks through an example application which is interesting and I did learn some good stuff along the way. The book also has SQL on the cover but once again it is used in the sample (briefly). I will have to find a tutorial online or buy another book to get a more thorough understanding on how PHP 7 and SQL should be used together.

Learn PHP7" from the publisher Apress.Com for a review, upon a request of my site.


So, let's start with the review - I liked reading the book. In the first chapter, an introduction to PHP is presented, where the PHP environments are explained with screenshots and a simple PHP program is ran. The second chapter puts you a little into the MVC model, which is quite needful for a PHP application. The third chapter is probably the gem of the book - it is the OOP basics in PHP. It is quite nicely explained, I liked it. Chapter 6 was for data objects, starting the real fun with DBs and files. The last two chapters concern authentication and multifunctional interfaces. Pretty much anything you need to build simple PHP applications.

Every chapter finishes with a small test of questions, where you should select the correct ones, true/false questions, projects proposal and a term project proposal. E.g. the third project of the second chapter looks like this - "Adjust the Hello World program to display your college/university name, address, main phone number. With the time, the projects get tougher, of course.

Minuses:
1. Could not find a real minus, it goes step by step into the technology. However, the book is really much into PHP7, but you probably need to be well-informed with the basic principles and techniques of programming in advance (e.g. loops, methods, arrays) in order to get the most of it. Probably a bit more info on DBs and basic SQL commands would have been better.

Pluses:
1. The book gives access to the code online for anyone, without even a need to buy the book. Thus, you can go on the site and check for yourself, whether it would be useful.
2. I liked the questions and the projects at the end of each chapter.
3. Nicely written, step-by-step approach.

Good book for individual or class

This book walks a beginner thru PHP from the beginning with lots of coding examples and explanations. It would work well as a textbook in a class or for a person learning on their own. It presents the code in a readable format and uses clear variable names.
