If you are lucky enough to find one of these for a reasonable price, buy it. This is one of the best histories of a garden tractor brand, Wheel Horse, in print. Martino, through extensive interviews and source materials gotten directly from the Pond families, chronicles the development of the Wheel Horse Garden tractor.

In many ways this is also the story of American industry, from the time when innovative American entrepreneurs like the Ponds actually made things all the way up to the disfunctional present.

Interesting to get a feel for the way the world looked to everyday people more than 100 years ago. Viewed as a story, though, the book is quite inconclusive. The reproduced edition did not include the figures and photographs from the original, which was a loss.

Quite an absorbing Book

The only reason I did not give this book five Stars it it was supposed to be Illustrated and, sadly, it was not. I found it very interesting. To exist on a small Island ,over 1500 miles from anywhere, and with a population of only 74, one had to be tough. One soul died while chopping logs for his fir. He was 106! To find that the ferocity of the wind meant that all dwellings had four foot thick walls was qite a shock.
There is a bit of religion in the content, as the Book was written by a Missionary's wife. Though a cannot claim to be religious, there was no "Bible Bashing" as such.
This was a Kindle download and I will more than likely read it again

Poor in every way, shape and form.

What I thought would be an interesting book about the culture and the life of the inhabitants turned out to be just a collection of diary entries by a woman who could care less about those things. I couldn't even finish reading it--it was really boring.

Would you ever stay on a boat that was sinking? The people on the Titanic had to make some decisions. Some people decided to stay on the Titanic, other people decided to hop into a lifeboat. I thought this book was very interesting. There was lots of action. (Example) the largest boat in the world hit an iceberg and started to sink! Some people even jumped of the large boat into the freezing water. There was a 12-year girl named Ruth that was left behind! The lifeboat that her mother and her two brothers were in was too crowded so she had to go in a lifeboat with a lot of strangers that Ruth didn't know. I would give these book 3 stars. I thought there were a lot of BRAVE characters, like Ruth. From this book I learned that you should always do what other people say.

I have young children who, with all the hype, are also fascinated by the story of Titanic. The movie is way over their heads and this book handles the tragedy in a very tasteful and understanding way. It is only natural for young kids to be curious considering how it is everywhere! Our family's copy of this book is already dog-eared from showing everyone. For beginning readers it is a story that keeps interest. As a mom of 3 this book is tops on my list!

This book is not only a good book for kids to start their reading on but a very informational one. I read it when I was in 1st grade, and I still go back and read over this book. And I'm in 6th grade. Overall it is a neat book.

Working in industry and having served the research community reviewing cryptographic protocols for years, I have been privileged to witness a fact: designing cryptographic protocols is a no-ending job. This is an inevitable result of the fact that our society is now entering the information era for which new and diversified applicational or functional requirements for secure communications are endless. So, increasingly more new protocols will yet be invented. For a piece of supporting evidence, International Security Protocols Workshop, an annual in Cambridge University specialising in security protocols, has been 12 years. The increasing demand for new protocols has not only been responded by a large number of new research proposals authored by professional cryptographers and information security researchers, but also encouraged many security engineers in hi-tech companies to join the trade of protocol design. Notice that the population of the latter group will grow despite of the fact that the notorious difficulty of making security protocols correct has made the former group of people to litter the area with numerous flawed protocols.
The book of Boyd and Mathuria is a responsible work facing the above conflicting phenomenon. Clarabelle, an enormous Holstein dairy cow, has just given birth to a calf, which means that her body is now producing milk. Lots of milk. On the Norswiss family dairy farm, Clarabelle is milked three times a day, with each session yielding about five gallons of milk. The dairy farm, with about twelve hundred cows on the property, has a large milking center loaded with modern technology. Feeding the cows also involves high-tech features, including a feed mixture that is specially formulated by a nutritionist and communicated via computer to the feed mixer truck. Also on the premises, the cow manure goes through a type of recycling process that produces methane for electricity and leftover solids for bedding in the cow stalls.

Cris Peterson, who runs a large dairy farm herself, has provided readers with an instructive book about modern techniques in dairy farming. David Lunquist's photography is excellent, resulting in a set of clear and detailed pictures of Clarabelle and the milk production process. This book is recommended for children and adults seeking to learn something new about food and agriculture.

Fantastic, factual book about dairy cows

This is the most accurate children's book about dairy farming I've yet to read (and since I am a dairy farmer, I'm a pretty tough critic). The book details the daily life of a cow on a modern Wisconsin dairy farm. The young sons of the owners show the readers the daily life of a cow, with good discussions of calving, milking, feeding and the process by which this dairy turns manure into electricity. The photographs are great, and the descriptions of everything are clear without getting too complicated. I'd recommend this to any elementary school library and any family with kids interested in where their milk comes from. The reading level is probably best for ages 6-8, much of it would be a bit too detailed for younger kids. They would enjoy the pictures though.

Great Dairy Story with pictures of a real dairy farm

Clarabelle's story is an intestesting one - she is a huge black & white cow & the story is about how she makes milk as well as electricity (from her manure) in a clean, comfortable environment. I like it that we can learn that milk is not "made" in the grocery store!

Alexandra Schultheis Moore is Associate Professor of English and Program Faculty in Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Her monographs include Regenerative Fictions: Postcolonialism, Psychoanalysis and the Nation as Family (Palgrave 2004) and Embodiment, Vulnerability, and Security in Human Rights Literature and Visual Culture (Routledge, forthcoming). She has also co-edited, with Elizabeth Swanson Goldberg, three volumes: Theoretical Perspectives on Human Rights and Literature (Routledge 2012); Teaching Human Rights in Literary and Cultural Studies (MLA Options for Teaching Series, forthcoming); and Doubling the Voice: Survivors and Human Rights Workers Address Torture, Resistance, and Hope (Republic of Letters, under contract). With Sophia McClennen, she is co-editing the Routledge Companion to Literature and Human Rights (forthcoming).

Does anyone EVER stay dead?!?

Like WTH?!? These folks have more lives than cats! I mean after funerals, burials etc., people STILL coming back from the dead. Pretty annoying and makes you just want to quit the series. Too bad I already purchased up to part 6...

First let me say, I LOVE(D) The Cartel series until this. I can just imagine the converasation A & J had when the contemplated writing another Cartel book. Jacquavis: "Yo, the streets is mad missing the Cartel right now! Yo, let's flood the streets with more (I'm using his I'm speaking like a street hustler, but refering to books voice).
Ashley: "But, we've killed all but one character off Qua?".
Jacquavis: "Don't matter...the streets are dry right know! Let's just make-up some s***, they real hungry. Let's get this money A!" (Again, in that same voice).
Ashley: "You're right, supernatural stuff is real hot right now. Let's do it!".

Ashley and Jacquavis...shame on you!!! I live in the REAL world, where REAL things happen, and the only person I know that rose from the dead was Jesus and your characters are far from the Misiah. If you wanted to go there, you should have resurrected Mecca as well (and for real). So, don't play me. Try to be creative in the Cartel 5 and create some new characters and a new top family. Sorry ya'll, but I'm that frustrated.

Love the Cartel Series!!!!!

Let me say that the Cartel will be another movie that A&J will produce. The skills that A&J bring forth is just amazing. Many would say why or what is going on be I saw BRAVO!!!!! The best part of a good book is the unknowm and I had no idea what was gonna happen in Cartel 4, and that is what I love about reading their books. If I was able to forsee what was gonna happen then it was gonna be no fun reading it. Thank you and Bring on Cartel 5 and yes Cartel 5 sorry about the Spoiler but if I go on I will tell you the Book.
