Once again, Skylar must negotiate the lies, secrets and strange politics that govern the otherworld while struggling not to draw attention to her abilities. It falls apart when she inadvertently changes a peculiar vampire and Chris discovers the link between Skylar and the culprit responsible for the attacks on the vampires and were-animals. Now Skylar wonders if she will be able to survive the otherworld this time.

Awesome setup book!! What an amazing universe!!

I know what many fans have shared "this story doesn't focus as much in Sky as it should"! Quite honestly I disagree, this book should be seen as setting the stage to building the greater world that is Sky Brooks reality, explaining the different species / types of creatures, exploring the potentially new allies and enemies, and more over, giving us a human view of what we considered simply as monsters in book 1 - the vampires.
Character development for everyone in the book was off the charts, understanding more of each and everyone's background - and especially seeing Sky understand more of each and everyone's background - makes it for an excellent story line, and even the bad guys grow a soft spot in my heart as I can't help enjoying the twist of my enemy of yesterday is my ally today!
I think this is a great book, an excellent set up, and - I admit I've already read midnight falls - an excellent introduction to book 3, flowing naturally and making the necessary evolution in Sky as a character as well!
Can't wait for book 4!!!

Truely addictive!

Wow what a book! I have read both books in this series and am addicted! This is like a soap opera, the people are never truly good, or truely evil! It is hard to live in the world of supernaturals, if you aren't tough your life expectancy is short! I can't blame Skyler for wanting to stay apart, of course she was forced into it kicking and screaming! Now Chris , she loves this world , humans have treated her so badly she wanted to change her life, well be careful what you wish for...

Not really about Skylar

Conflicted. It is billed as a Sky Brooks story when it isn't. Mostly she is an observer when involved. It is really the Chris story. I didn't like her character, and still don't find her worth the time and interest. I know she is there to be the love interest of Ethan, but there is nothing that suggests why at all. Yes their "relationship" is "complicated" as everyone states, but as toxic and and unstable as it is made out to be, I still feel there is an attempt to make it more than it could ever believably be, which is a genuine love match. I feel this book is trying to set up that kind of relationship for her and Ethan, and I don't find that given what we do know of these characters that it would be amicable at all. Maybe the author intends to change all we know of Ethan's personality and he will settle for and be totally fine with the new Chris. I really hope not as it would ruin his character. Josh was prominence in this as a strong underrated power that people are noticing, but overall, not much really developed with him. Ethan was not really as protectiveness f his pack, and that seemed strange as that is stated to be an interesting ingrained part of me. He focused far too much ch time on secrets and Chris not on his pack at all. I like Winter and wish there had been more with her. I found Quell interesting at first. I think he should stay a background character. The situation with him and Skylar doesn't add anything to her story and seems an unnecessary complication. REALLY hope that the author doesn't try a romantic match between Skylar and him. Much like I don't want Ethan and Chris, I don't want that match either. Too many differences that would have to change and therefore alter the parts of the characters that are interesting. honestly, perhaps this story would be better with no attempt at romantic relationships. I don't think we discovered much at all about Skylar's abilities. I was looking forwad to that. I hope she isn't a background character in the next book, as in this one, she really didn't play a role. I enjoyed the first book enough to be willing to read the next one. The pack dynamics and characters are far more interesting than the vampire seethe. Wish there hadn't been so much time on them and other characters that were peripheral in the first book. They should continue not get alongt and not play such a huge role in the pack life or its members. I do hope that the next book is actually about Skylar and the pack. I think the author is a good writer, and think she has talent. I realize that she has the formula for her story, and hopefully the next book will be more like the ordinal story and not off on so many other tangents.
