Man is essentially a spiritual being. Immortality, is what the word says it is—godhood re-cognized in the mortal. "Im" or, "Om"—the more general term—stands for the Changeless. Birthless. Deathless. Unnamable Power that holds the worlds in space, and puts intelligence into man. Biologists, even though they were to succeed in reproducing life by chemical processes from so-called "lifeless" (sterilized) matter, making so high a form of manifestation as man himself, yet could never name the power by which they accomplished it. Always there must remain the Unknownable—the Absolute. "Om," therefore, is the word we use to express this Omniscient, Omnipotent and Omnipresent power. The term "mortal" we have already defined. The compound immortal, applied to individual man, stands for one who has made his "at-one-ment" with Om, and who has, while still in the mortal body, re-cognized himself as one with Om. This is what it means to escape the "second death," to which the merely mortal consciousness is subject. This is the goal of every human life; this is the essence, the substance of all religious systems and all philosophies. The only chance for disputation among theologians and philosophers, lies in the way of accomplishing this at-one-ment. There is not the slightest opportunity for a difference of opinion as what they wish to accomplish. Admitting then, that the goal of every soul is the same—immortality—(the mortal consciousness cognizing itself as Om), we come to a consideration of the evidence we may find in support of this axiom. This evidence we do not find satisfactory, in spirit communication; in psychic experiences; in hypnotic phenomena; and astral trips; important, and reliable as these many psychic research

About the Author
Dr. Alexander James McIvor-Tyndall was a colorful gentleman, noted to be “one of the most astounding workers ever to appear on the platform. His exhibition of mind-reading was spectacular. As a lecturer he has had few equals.” He and his wife both served the church in Lily Dale. It appears that at the same time his wife was Pastor of the Lily Dale Church, Dr. McIvor-Tyndall was Pastor of the First Spiritualist Church in Syracuse, NY, having been ordained by the National Spiritualist Association in 1923. Mr. and Mrs. McIvor-Tyndall often traveled to Florida during the winter months to serve Cassadaga Camp. The McIvor-Tyndall’s owned a home at 9 Buffalo St. and it was reported that he died in Lily Dale, NY on December 10, 1940.

This should be a school textbook

An honest, unbiased and refreshing look at a subject that we secretly hold inside us with very little understanding.
To help understand that other religions are no different, than what we are on the inside is well described by our authors.
That love is a universal force will be evidenced by the reader.
This would be an ideal school textbook used for spiritual guidence, to help understand that invisable sphere of immortality that dwells within and around us.
This concious awareness needs to be tought early in our lives not at the end, as it is now done by natural growth in ones wisdom.
A great narrative for the heart and soul.

Much broader scope than I expected

The book starts out with a description of illumination (enlightenment, nirvana, samadhi, etc.). Then goes on to discuss in individual chapters the environment, culture, upbringing, etc. of people such as Christ, Buddha, Mohammed, Whitman, Wordsworth, etc.. The summary at the end was more like preaching than a summary of the important points made in the book. All things considered I found this book useful in "connecting the dots".
