One of the best IPE textbooks on the market

Have assigned this text in courses on IPE for years now, through several editions. This edition is a vast improvement over the 5th edition in many ways: more concise, remarkably up to date, and with a proper balance of theoretical approaches (Realism, Liberalism, Historical Materialism and several others: constructivism, feminism, neo-Gramscianism) and IPE topics, e.g. money, trade, regionalism, MNCs, debt. Each chapter has a number of bolded terms for students to consider and clever chapter questions. The historical survey of the Bretton Woods Institutions at the start of the book is excellent. Only critique that I have is that Chapter One could have a clearer discussion of State vs. Market goals and the notion of "efficiency" - the efficient allocation of scarce resources - that is something that inevitably comes up in discussions of economic liberalism. I also think that Cohn might want to take a closer look at the growing challenges to, and hopeful reforms of, the Bretton Woods Institutions. All said, glad to be using this textbook again. I recommend it highly to students and instructors.

I like not having to carry around the book but the page numbers are not there. Maybe it's my device but that makes it hard to cite references. Otherwise it's a good buy if you want to keep the book and not resell it when class is over.

Ann Frederick's story: How Fascial Stretch Therapy™ came about

When I was a young girl, I had a premonition that I was destined to create something that would unite art and science. I was unsure what it would be or when it would happen, but I knew it was my calling. I also knew it would change the way people looked at the topic and that it would eventually spread worldwide. When it occurred, the development of FST felt like a combination of divine guidance and pure necessity.

FST has been a blessing beyond words. People may question why I would want to teach a technique I had developed and lose the exclusivity of being the only person to offer it. My response has always been that when we are given a gift it is our responsibility to give back. How could I not share something that has brought so much joy and hope to myself and so many others?�

From age of 4 until I was 40, I spent my life in a dance studio. I was both dancing professionally and teaching from the young age of 14. Movement and the wonder of the body have been a part of my daily life for a very long time. My other passion was the science of the human body. I took every course offered on the subject in school and read as much as I could about it. In high school, I distinctly remember going home and learning all 206 bones in one evening.�

I spent many years training dancers in flexibility and not one was ever injured on my watch. I attributed it to the focus in my classes on extensive flexibility training to which I dedicated at least 30 minutes during the warm-up component in each class. In the dance world, extreme flexibility along with strength is a non-negotiable requirement.�

While teaching a group stretch class at a local gym, I had an epiphany. I looked out over my class, which was filled to capacity, and realized that there was a great need in people to become more flexible, indeed senior citizens made a big chunk of the class. This new awareness of the general population needing and, more importantly, wanting help with their flexibility was eye opening and very exciting. My vision was becoming clearer once I enrolled at Arizona State University (ASU), getting my degree and studying Academic dance with a focus in kinesiology.�

As life would have it, at the end of one of my first stretch classes, a guy came up to me and said, "They need what you are doing here at the ASU athletic department."�
It was an opportunity to work with college athletes from 26 different sports.�

The journey of creating Fascial Stretch Therapy began in the summer of 1995 in the weight training room at ASU. It occurred on the bench press when I tied a weight belt around a football player's leg to hold it still while I stretched him. I realized that if I could get proper leverage on this big guy by getting him up off the floor and using a stabilizing strap, I was truly on to something. And the rest, as they say, is history. Each time I had someone on the treatment table in my private practice, I developed the new method a bit more. Between my studies and my private practice I was working upwards of 18 hours a day. I was on the football field in the morning taking the team through group stretches or in the weight room working with individual athletes. I worked for several hours before class and then again after class each afternoon. I would then go to my office and spend time honing the art of my newfound career. It was not unusual for me to spend ten hours a day stretching individual clients.

My hard work paid off quickly - I was asked to travel with the 1996 US men's Olympic Wrestling team. They say if you are living your life's calling, things begin to flow and drop into place and they certainly were! I was the first flexibility specialist to be a part of the Olympic games.�

I knew I would need someone to take care of my clients while I was away for the summer so I found two young people who were interested to learn the technique I had developed. I trained them privately and they became the first two FST students as well as my beginning staff. While my company's name started out as A&F Flexibility Systems, we soon changed it to the Stretch to Win Center based in Tempe, Arizona, USA.

I had a thriving practice for almost 20 years and enjoyed working with clients from many walks of life. A large percentage of my clientele were professional American football players. From 2005-2009 I was fortunate enough to be part of three Super Bowls taking care of almost the entire starting lineup for three different teams.�

It became increasingly clear that there was a growing need to develop the school and that it was time for me to end the chapter of private practice and give it my full attention to teaching others. We closed our office in 2012 to dedicate ourselves to sharing our knowledge of FST with as many as possible. This was accomplished through our professional training school, the Stretch to Win Institute.

The other serendipitous event in my life was to meet Chris, my husband, partner and the love of my life. He has been by my side since the day he walked through my office door in June 1998. Joining creative forces early in FST's genesis allowed Chris and I to evolve and develop the technique together. I choose not to speculate what my life or FST would be like without him. About the Author
Chris Frederick has been a physical therapist/physiotherapist since 1989, focusing on manual therapy - particularly Fascial Stretch Therapy™(FST) and Kinesis Myofascial Integration (KMI) �- along with movement prescription. He has an extensive background in dance, both as a professional dancer of classical ballet, as well as in the specialty of dance physiotherapy. Chris is also well versed in the ancient movement and healing arts of tai chi and qigong. He is a coauthor with Thomas Myers of the chapter on stretching in the seminal book Fascia: the tensional network of the human body edited by Robert Schleip et al.
Ann Frederick is a former professional dancer, having grown up in her Mom's dance studio, starting to dance at the age of 4. She has practiced manual therapy for over 20 years, specifically in the field of flexibility training, focusing on assisted individual stretching, group stretch and dance instruction. Ann originally created a unique system of neuromyofascial manual therapy called Stretch to Win Fascial Stretch Therapy� for the USA Men's Olympic Wrestling Team of 1996. Besides improving professional athletic performance, she soon discovered that FST also rapidly helped other clients with a variety of chronic, unresponsive pain conditions, strength imbalances and other common neuromusculoskeletal disorders.
Chris and his wife Ann are both certified by Thomas Myers in Kinesis Myofascial Integration and are also the authors of the popular book Stretch to Win. Chris and Ann directed their own highly successful center for Fascial Stretch Therapy, physical therapy/physiotherapy, Kinesis Myofascial Integration, sports massage and Pilates for nearly 20 years. They are now Directors of the Stretch to Win Institute, where they offer certification training workshops in FST. �

Great for everyone! Set it free with FST!

Fascial Stretch Therapy has changed my life. I am a competitive athlete that up until 2 years ago was in and out of rehab with minor but limiting injuries in my sports of powerlifting and ice hockey. I was fortunate enough to be treated by an FST therapist to help with a nagging hip injury. Two hours later the pain was gone and it did not return! I was amazed and immediately felt compelled to learn about and share FST!

I am now a Level 2 therapist working towards my Level 3 Certification. It is books like this one and Stretch to Win that keep us therapists sharp while teaching those not as educated in stretch therapy about the magic. I was very excited to read this book and it has lived up to my expectations. This book is backed by evidence and science. It takes a look at every angle of recovery and gives you the tools to implement the best recovery methods for yourself or clients. Within the first chapter I had already learned something new. Enough talking, but this book.

wondering if you should buy this book? the answer is yes!

ann + chris frederick are true innovators of our time and we are so fortunate to have this dynamic pair available to us. their passion, energy and devotion to this work is contagious!

in a world where we push, push, push - fascial stretch therapy (fst) brings both client and therapist back to body awareness and to a place where we tune in again - this is where the magic happens, when we listen to our bodies. the words, 'no pain, no gain' DO NOT apply here.

in my 10 year career as a massage therapist, i have seen time and time again that once a client is off the table and gravity and old movement patterns take over all that work is quickly gone. personally, i had always hoped for more lasting change for my clients. and this IS possible with fst (not to mention, much easier on you as a therapist).

as an acupuncturist, i have found that the combining fst with acupuncture makes INCREDIBLE and lasting changes. treating the fascia is the key to making structural and constitutional changes.

if you are currently an fst practitioner, this is an invaluable resource to have in your library. continuous study of this material will enable you to gain a greater understanding of this work, which will translate into much more effective treatments for your client. the book is as well structured as the therapy itself. it contains theory, positioning of client and therapist, movement goals and cue's. it's like having your fst manuals in one beautiful color photo'd package. :)

if you are a therapist who has been wondering how you can create a bigger impact on the overall well being of your client, fst is a game changer. BUT, don't just read the book - invest in the training. the return both personally and professionally is life changing. not to mention 100% necessary. the magic is in the details and you have the opportunity to learn from the creators. who, by the way, are ALL about the details. i encourage you to experience this for yourself and most importantly to maintain the integrity of this great work.

Great Book! A "Must Have" for FST practitioners.

Truly invaluable for all Fascial Stretch Therapists or anyone with a background working with connective tissue/fascia. Pulls the whole concept together and provides clarity and direction with every client that comes in my door.

For serious professionals and the educated lay person, this book spells out the anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, clinical guidelines and research I've been waiting for - The authors take the subject way beyond guesswork and into established science.

I expect to read this over and over, to refer to it as a resource when I'm in need of a new perspective or to share it with my colleagues, my clients and my students.

Black Holes, White Holes, and Worm Holes, Oh My!

Is there any inquisitive person alive on this planet who hasn’t been fascinated by the idea of black holes? What person hasn’t read a science book, watched a science documentary, and/or watched a science fiction movie about these strange enigmas called black holes? But what, exactly, are black holes?

When we study the various guesses that scientific materialism has made concerning the ontology of black holes, we quickly come to the realization that science, as usual, doesn’t have a clue. Indeed, many scientific materialists don’t even think that black holes exist. Here is a quick article from phys.org that highlights scientific materialism’s disjointed thinking about black holes: (...) . If you take a look at this article, you quickly realize that black holes confuse and bewilder scientists to no end. There is a very simple reason for this confusion, namely, black holes are minds and scientific materialists, by definition, can not fathom or accept the independent existence of mind and, because of this instinctual hostility towards mind, they have absolutely no way of truly studying black holes.

There is, however, a secret society that has existed for millennia whose purpose has been the rational, mathematical study of souls/minds/black holes. This secret society is known to us today as the Pythagorean Illuminati. If you would like to learn the Truth of your mind/soul, and hence the Truth of existence, then you should read this book, “Black Holes are Souls”, and all of the other titles released by the preeminent authors: Mike Hockney, Michael Faust, and Adam Weishaupt. If you are unfamiliar with the work of the Pythagorean Illuminati, I wouldn’t recommend beginning your studies in Pythagoreanism/Ontological Mathematics with this book – “Black Holes are Souls”. You see, the authors of these books are laying out the foundation for a whole New World based on Hyperreason. This means a new government, a new economics, a new religion, a new society, a new science, a new psychology, a new sociology, a new education, a new EVERYTHING. If you want to gain the best possible understanding of this Rational New World Order and be a part of the vanguard ushering it in, then you must read all of the Pythagorean Illuminati’s books. These books are the purest expression of Reason this world has ever seen. As I said, every one of the Illuminati’s books are available on Amazon, and they’re practically free.

For people new to these books, I would recommend beginning with the various book series by Adam Weishaupt and Michael Faust. It’s these series that lay the foundation of Pythagorean Illuminism and prepare your mind for what you will discover in the Illuminati’s most advanced books series: “The God Series”, by Mike Hockney. “Black Holes are Souls” is the 23rd installment in “The God Series”. So, you can probably imagine that if you begin your studies with this book, you will have missed a lot of prior information to say the least. These are simply my opinions though, the important thing is for all rational people to begin their studies in Pythagoreanism/Ontological Mathematics as soon as possible. Once all of the people of Reason unite under the banner of the Pythagorean Illuminati, there will be no stopping the advent of The New World Order and The Age of Reason.

If you’ve been reading and integrating all of the Illuminati’s books up to this point, then you will be very excited about and right at home with this particular book. As I mentioned above, this is the 23 title in the reality revealing series known as “The God Series”. This book continues building off of the information presented in the previous books in this series, especially book number 21 of “The God Series” – “Causation and the Principal of Sufficient Reason”.

In “Black Holes are Souls”, we learn the truth concerning black holes, white holes, wormholes, hyperspace, and The Big Bang. The Illuminati have taught us about black holes in many of their previous books, but never to the extent that this book delves into the subject. In this book, the Pythagorean Illuminati rationally deconstruct and destroy all of scientific materialism’s “theories” pertaining to black holes, and they then present us with the Ontological Mathematical Truth of black holes, namely, they’re minds/souls. As always, the Illuminati rationally, rigorously, definitively and mathematically prove all of their points, and a rational person will be left with no doubt about the conclusions of the authors.

Everything you love about “The God Series” continues in “Black Holes are Souls”. The authors write chapters on: Ontological Mathematics, philosophy, psychology, science, eastern religion, abrahamic religion, new ageism, politics, activism, Meritocracy, reason, and everything in between.

There are some absolutely fascinating sections in this book concerning psychology and the conscious mind versus the unconscious mind. Reading any of the books by the Pythagorean Illuminati will cause changes to begin taking place within your mind, and, if you have no understanding of mathematics and psychology, these changes will be extremely disconcerting. Luckily, these authors give us ample mathematical and psychological knowledge to understand the changes that are occurring in our minds. The sections on the feedback loop between our conscious and unconscious minds helped my own understanding in just this way.

I think it’s always important to remember that the Illuminati are writing these books to change the world, not to make money (hence why their books are so inexpensive). If you truly want to repay these authors for, quite literally, saving your soul, then begin thinking of ways that you can help them change the world.

One way to help them change the world is to begin spreading the Rational, Positive Liberty message of the Pythagorean Illuminati far and wide. Rational people all over the world MUST be made aware of the principles and virtues of Pythagoreanism if this world is to have any chance of recovery. Our old, irrational, negative liberty way of thinking has had its day. Our irrationality and unreason, along with scientific materialism’s newfound ability to build technology of mass destruction, has led us to the brink.

We are all now faced with a stark choice: continue being irrational and perish, or embrace the Light of Reason and live, it’s a choice as simple and basic as that. Well, what’s your decision: Reason or unreason, life or death? I know my choice. I want to revalue all values. I want to become Hyperrational. I want to LIVE. I want to help create a New World Order where everyone is living life to its fullest, where everyone is 100% actualized and dynamic, where everyone is rational. This is humanity’s Sacred Cause, I’m preparing for the challenge, are you?

This is the best (along with his others and those of the two associated writers) introductory modern series on rationalist idealism in Classical Greek & Cartesian & German Idealist philosophy & postmodernism, including Pythagoreanism/Illumination, Platonism, Hermetism, Gnosticism, Leibnizianism, Hegelianism, formal & natural & social science, religion, and the arts, in this case such as mathematics/mathematicism, cosmology, and more in-depth philosophy analysis. This is the best series that explains reality more clearly than anything else.

Schumacher has previously written about popular music, which, given that his subject here owes its fame to a hit Gordon Lightfoot song, seems entirely appropriate. Schumacher chronicles theEdmund Fitzgerald from its 1958 launching as the largest freighter on the Great Lakes to its 1975 sinking, memorialized by the song. He emphasizes that while the sinking was sudden, the freighter had already severely flooded, and the real mystery is the cause of the flooding. He canvases various possibilities (faulty maintenance, leaking hatchways, etc.) in detail, with clarity and sobriety. He does as much, too, in portraits of the crew, assessing the possibility of human error without gratuitous finger-pointing, and he includes moving portraits of the crew's families. Finally, he gives a balanced account of the subsequent discovery and exploration of the wreck, some of which has been so competitive and in such dubious taste that the wreck has been declared a gravesite to which further diving is barred. Superb reportage and history

Michael Schumacher is a gem. His writing style is economical, but hardly dry. His prodigous research of the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald, a Great Lakes ore carrier that sank in a 1975 Lake Superior storm, shows in a detailed recitation of the ship, its building, crew, the dramatic power of lake storms, the sinking and its aftermath.

Like many people, my interest in the Fitzgerald was minimal: faint recollections of the news stories of the time and Gordon Lightfoot's ballad. Yes, when I saw the title, I thought Schumacher's book would be worth the read.

Schumacher, without ever appearing to do so, begins with dramatic flourish and keeps right on building through the very last page. He never engages in histrionic trickery. Never stoops to sensationalism of any kind. Never inserts his own opinions. He employs his skill as a writer to present the facts in a very spare way to heighten the drama. Schumacher is indeed brilliant: like the mason, he lays one unimposing brick of fact upon another until one at last sees not the individual bricks, but a stunning cathedral.

"Mighty Fitz" is an education in and of itself about Great Lakes shipping, the giant ore carriers that routinely ply their way across the waters, the frightening stormse that can roil the lakes, the men who crew these vessels and much more, including the opportunists who take advantage of tragedy to make a buck. The list is much longer, a testament to Schumacher's research and writing skills. Really, quite an extraordinary work and one well worth reading.

Fascinating, Modern-Day Mystery

I was a teenager growing up in Northern Minnesota in November 1975 when the Edmund Fitzgerald sank in eastern Lake Superior. I remember the storm, the news story, and thought the Gordon Lightfoot song only added to the mystical element of why the storm claimed the "pride of the lakes."

Schumacher's account is basically chronological, tracing the launching of the ship in 1958 and following its life until the boat last loaded taconite pellets in Superior, Wisconsin on the morning of November 9, 1975. Accounts and reflections of family members are interspersed throughout the narrative.

Of particular interest to me are the various theories of how she sank so suddenly. There were no survivors, no visual witnesses. The best evidence of what happened were radio conversations with nearby ships.

I had always favored the theory that the ship might have struck a shoal north of Caribou Island. With both radars down, the Fitzgerald had to thread a needle between two islands. Under most circumstances, this would be no problem. But in the early afternoon of November 10, 1975 in a blinding snowstorm, maybe she got too close to the more shallow shore on the north side of the island. With a hole in the bottom, that would account for the list the Captain reported. The ship gradually sank lower and lower in the water until a wave from behind lifted her and sent her nosediving to the bottom of the lake. This theory seems to best explain why there was no final distress call.

However, after reading Schumacher's book, I am less certain. The Coast Guard's original explanation of taking on water from the topside hatches now has some merit to me. This theory has always been controversial because it then points to possible negligence of the crew in not manually securing dozens of clamps that hold the hatch covers in place. Schumacher also reported something that I never heard before in that the Coast Guard found some damage to the hatch covers just a couple of weeks prior the accident, but cleared the Fitzgerald for the remaining of the shipping season.

Maybe both things happened. Who knows? What we do know from the radio transmission is that the Fitzgerald was taking on water from somewhere and it gradually weighed the ship down until it either just sank or nosedived to the bottom.

Less convincing is the theory that she broke in two on the surface before sinking. How the Fitzgerald sits in two pieces at the bottom of the lake 530 feet down seems to support the theory that she nosedived with the bow hitting the bottom violently from the shifting weight of the iron ore. The bow is sitting battered but dignified facing southeast towards the safety of Whitefish Bay. The torque created in the middle of the ship upon impact twisted the stern so that it now rests upside down some few hundred feet away from the bow.

No one will ever know with certainty. What has always fascinated me about the Fitzgerald is how violent and fickle Lake Superior can be. The other thought I have is what the 29 men thought in those precious few seconds they had when they knew they were about to die. I wonder what I would have thought and done in a similar circumstance. Gordon Lightfoot captures the sentiment so well in his line, "Does anyone know, where the love of God goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?"

The book is very readable and I couldn't put it down. Also of note are recent developments in which there is a movement on the part of the families to declare the site as a graveyard and off-limits to all future dives. I completely agree. A survey has been made. There are no definitive clues because the impact on the bottom has caused so much damage there is no way to determine what damage happened above or below water. There is no way to determine whether there is a hole under the bow section that may have caused the flooding in the first place.

It will be impossible to forget the Fitzgerald and we should not. But at the very least, we should let the 29 dead men at the bottom of the lake rest in peace by prohibiting all future dives. Schumacher's book is an moving compilation of 30 years of theories and shed tears over this modern day mystery.

People are still very interested some three decades later.

"Mighty Fitz" arrived on the shelves of our local library in early December. It has already been checked out 9 or 10 times indicating to me that there is still a remarkable level of interest in trying to ascertain just what happened to the Edmund Fitzgerald on that stormy November day three decades ago. Unlike some of the other reviewers I had not read anything about the Fitz prior to this. I must admit that at times I was absolutely spellbound by author Michael Schumacher's chilling account of the demise of this formidable vessel.

For those unfamiliar with the history of Great Lakes shipwrecks "Mighty Fitz" offers a crash course on the subject. Michael Schumacher has devoted much of his adult life to studying these wrecks. You will discover the circumstances surrounding the sinkings of the Carl D. Bradley and the Daniel J Morrell in the late 1950's. And when you read the account of the great storm that claimed some 30 ships over a three day period in late November 1905 you will come to understand the powerful forces of nature that the Edmund Fitzgerald was up against back in 1975. The fact of the matter is that there are still a lot of unanswered questions as to why the Edmund Fitzgerald plunged to the bottom of Lake Superior. Was it human error? Had the crew been negligent in securing the ship? Was there too much weight on board? What about the possibility that the Fitz was structurally unsound? Or did Captain McSorley make a fatal navigational error when he took the vessel too close to the Six Fathom Shoal? "Mighty Fitz" explores each of these possibilities and many others in great detail. Michael Schumacher also discusses the continuing odyssey of attempts to get to the bottom of the Edmund Fitzgerald tragedy. There are so many competing interests at play here. Family members want to ban furthur exploration of the wreckage and designate the site off-limits to everyone. And as new technolgies emerge others are bound and determined to discover once and for all just what happened to the Edmund Fitzgerald. The truth is that there are compelling arguments on both sides of these issues.

I found "Mighty Fitz: The Story of the Edmund Fitzgerald" to be a very well-written and entertaining book. It is clear that Michael Schumacher is passionate about his subject. I must say that I agree with at least a couple of the other Amazon reviewers who found that the lack of any kind of maps was a drawback for them. Had such illustrations been included I don't think I would have had any trouble rating "Mighty Fitz" a full five stars. It comes awfully close anyway. Highly recommended.

Catherine is the first and when her husband ups and leaves she feels like she is starting all over again

Three women are the focus in this latest Lucy Diamond release. Catherine is the first and when her husband ups and leaves she feels like she is starting all over again. We also meet Anna who has recently discovered her father who she has never known is Italian, and then Sophie who has returned from her many years abroad to see her ill father. The three women will meet through the Italian language course they all decide to be a part of.

The three women’s stories are told individually and you really get to know each of them before they eventually meet. Anna and Sophie I instantly liked, but for some reason I wanted Catherine to grow a backbone and she annoyed me for the first few chapters. However, when she starts to make changes to her life I warmed up to her. Sophie was my favourite and I loved the way the reader gets to discover slowly why she left the UK, and why her relationship with her parents had gone so wrong. Anna was a funny and warm character and you couldn’t help but get swept along with her in her dream to find out about her Italian roots.

The story flowed beautifully and I was transported into all of their lives and willing them to all get what they wanted out of their classes. In addition to the three main characters we also meet some of the characters at their class, and they definitely made the book complete in my eyes. Once again Lucy Diamond has managed to create a heart-warming story, which takes you away from reality for a few hours. I read this in just under 2 days and really enjoyed it. Certainly a recommended read, although ‘Summer With My Sister’ will always remain my absolute favourite!

One Night in Italy

Three different women are drawn to an evening Italian class, and although their life circumstances and reasons for wanting to learn Italian vary greatly, the common meeting place of the class allows them to share their hopes and dreams with each other. The instructor, Sophie, has returned home to England to care for her ailing father after years of travelling the world and working odd jobs in places like Australia and Sorrento. With her whole life and career ahead of her, she's not sure where to turn next. In a similar state of limbo is Catherine, who has just sent her two children off to University and split up with her cheating husband. In all the years of being a mum and a wife, she's lost who she really is and what her own interests are. Anna has recently learned that her father is Italian and is soaking up everything about Italian culture and dreaming of flying to Italy to meet him one day.

This was a fun book, it's funny but has enough serious moments to make an interesting plot. Each of the characters had some aspect of their personality that I could relate to and the other characters besides the main three are delightful as well, I especially enjoyed Roy and Geraldine from the Italian class. As an added bonus, each chapter starts with an Italian phrase followed by the English translation so the reader picks up a couple of Italian words as well. A great vacation read.

I was really happy when I got accepted for this book on NG J This was the first Lucy Diamond book for my to read and I’m glad I did, there will be much more, she’s an awesome writer.

I have a strong connection to Italy so this was really special for me to read about. I loved that all the chapters had an Italian title.

The book tells us the story of three different women, who meet at an Italian class in Sheffield: Sophie, Anna and Catherine.
Sophie is their teacher, she recently came to England, because her father is ill. She spent the last two years in Italy and before she lived in Australia. She also gets the opportunity to write restaurant reviews for the journal and she spends more time with her colleague Joe. Misunderstandings and drama comes up because of the review she writes. Last but not least, there is Catherine. She’s married and has two kids at University. As soon as their gone, she finds her husband Mike cheating and he leaves her. She is heart broken and sad. Only after a while she wants to change her life and do something with it, so she goes to the Italian class. She also finds out more about what her husband was doing behind her back.

The stories of these three ladies are all connected somehow, which was great and really enjoyable to read about.

All three women are figuring out what they want in life and all in a total different way. I was hoping for at least ne of them to get to Italy and Anna made it. It was also there, where her new life began! I loved her story. She expressed her feelings in her articles and found her luck.
Sophie started acting again and I liked the way she changed after that, like she was glowing and then Dan turned up at the premiere…
As for Catherine, also her story developed and she realised how much her children mean to her.

Lucy has a wonderful way of writing; it’s bubbly, funny, thoughtful and entertaining!
