Giving a microscope to a child? Get this book too!

This is the perfect companion gift for anyone who intends to give a child a microscope. Although it's written for 2nd through 4th grade children to read on their own, children in the 5th and 6th grades will certainly benefit from the information in this book as well. As the boy in the story learns to use his new microscope, readers will gather ideas of things to look at under their own microscope. The book encourages children to make their own slides for viewing under the microscope. Some of the items the boy in the story examines include salt, sugar, pepper, hair, thread, and onion. Drawings of what each item should look like through the microscope are included. In the case of the salt and sugar, water is added to see what would happen. Then, the resulting salt and sugar-water is allowed to evaporate, and the slide is examined again, to discover the resulting crystals. Once the children look at those things under a microscope, they will be able to think of other things to examine on their own. It's a wonderful starting place. It will open up the world of the very small to children. Absolutely excellent!

Wouldn't go for this unless Specified for a course as text book

We have this book as the textbook for the course. This book does nothing to give you a 'feel' for what is happening; its just the same old formulas, some complicated worked examples and even more complicated exercises.Everybody,even high school students can solve problems involving sample spaces, events and their probabilities up to Baye's theorem. Its only when the concept of Random variables is introduced and moving further on with pairs of RV's and concepts of correlation, Random processes and concepts of stationary, ergodic processes, that things get complicated. Nearly same as previous edition but is a bargin

I purchased the older edition and have reviewed that book. I am now looking at this edition and feel disappointed that it has only one review and that not on the content. This is not a 3-star book. This is an excellent book, for classroom use or for your reference purposes. At this cut rate price, it is an amazing bargain. Get one immediately.

Decent book, awful on a kindle

This is a nicely written book, aimed at electrical engineers and computer science majors at an upper undergraduate level. I found it intuitive and mathematically correct.

However, amazon has done it again and managed to ruin an otherwise good book with horrible quality on the kindle (kindle fire hd in my case). Many of the equations are so small that you can barely read them. If you click on them to magnify, they show on a grey background and are so pixelated that they are unreadable.

Authors, please do the tech world a favor and insist that amazon formats your book correctly for the kindle.

"I conceive of two sorts of inequality in the human species: one, which I call natural or physical, because it is established by nature and consists in the difference of ages, health, bodily strengths, and qualities of mind or soul; the other which may be called moral or political inequality, because it depends upon a sort of convention and is established, or at least authorized, by consent of men. The latter consists in the different privileges that some men enjoy to the prejudice of others, such as to be richer, more honored, more powerful than they, or even to make themselves obeyed by them."
In 1750, the Academy of Dijon held an essay contest. The question, `Has the restoration of the sciences & arts tended to purify morals?' The First Discourse (Discourse on the Sciences and Arts) was the winning essay. Rousseau's powerful critique of the enlightenment in modern Europe spit in the faces of the very people that were judging his work. However, Rousseau's arguments and assessment of the enlightenment were so profound that even the elite scholars of the Academy could not deny Rousseau his just recognition for superior writing and understanding of the nature of the sciences and arts and their effects on modern life.
Rousseau's Second Discourse (Discourse on the Origin and Foundations of Inequity) was a follow up to the first. In it, Rousseau delves deeper into the issue of human origins (i.e. the state of nature) and the cause and effects of human inequality.
No other philosopher has be praised and condemned, celebrated and written-off as much as Rousseau. His countless effects on modern life go relatively unknown. Price-gouging on 40-year-old translation

Good translation with good notes, but I no longer assign it for my classes. Instead I use the very adequate Donald Cress translation from Hackett, Rousseau: The Basic Political Writings. When the Masters was first published, it was in a small format and had a sewn binding. The current version is simply an unchanged photo-enlargement of the earlier one, now in a crappy perfect binding and at a price that has steadily increased toward absurdity—especially after 40 years of sales. This is gouging pure and simple, and I can't see why I should participate by requiring it of my students.

Leave the Fight?

This is one of the best animorphs series book. I loved it because it introduces one of my favorite characters: the Ellimist. Rachel is stressed. Atop of having to fighting the evil mind-controlling yeerks by turning into animals, her father is going to move away and wants her to come with him. A chance for a normal life. But she can't leave now. Her friends have found an entrance to a yeerk pool where the slugs rest each three days. They go inside as roaches and are almost swallowed by a taxxon (a controlled spacial worm) when time stops. A strange man tells them that he can take them to another planet along with some loved ones where the human race can reproduce. Some have made their decision. Will the fight be abandoned?

APPLEGATE'S BEST YET

Wow this is a great book that is not boring like some Sc-Fi books. It is full of action and it is the first one that has the Elimist in it. I liked the part when They had to destroy the fake sun that the yeerks use to stay alive and it was cool when the Elimist took them into the future and told them what could of happened. In this book Rachel has to make a big decision. Should she move with her dad and leave the battle of the Yeerk or would she abanden her dad and stay and fight the yeerks. If you will read this book you will see Rachel's point of view with the Elimist story and you will see if she stays or moves away with her dad. Find this all out in Animorphs #7 The Stranger.

Complicated, but Excellent

This book is narrated by Rachel, so you know it's gonna be good. The book is kind of complicated, and it introduces the Ellimist, who appears in later books as well. This is one of the begining books, before the series started to go downhill. I would definately recommend this to anyone who isn't too far in the series, but stilll loves the Animorphs.

We have invested many properties over the years in Asia. When we decided to invest in the UK, we found Mike and his book. What amazes me, it's the stories of how he successfully build his wealth through properties. Owning a property in the UK is definitely different from owning a property in the Asia.

Before you embark your journey into the unknown, please grab this book and read it from front to back. Don't say that i did not warn you first. This small investment in educating yourself is so important because we can learn from his mistakes and experiences.

What are the key take away :

There are so many building planning and regulations that if we miss out, our property values will definitely drop or hard to sell. We don't do that in Asia(developing countries). No one cares actually. Read it to understand it.

Identifying the defects in the '4 Seasons' property versus 'Asian weather' property, so much to learn. Something new to me.

The types of mortgages available in the UK. So different from the Asian Banks.

Just go and buy this book.. PERIOD. You won't regret. So so practical...
